The Lynndon Bowls Club Story
The club is one of the few bowls clubs in the Brisbane metropolitan area with a non-suburban name. History tells us that Jack Hiddle, businessman and landowner donated the land to the local community and funded the cost associated with the building of a bowling green. Then, the one acre site was no more than an overgrown gully. On Saturday 25 April 1952, the first roll-up took place. Of the fifty men who played only two had played bowls before. Breakfast Bowls Sunday 1st April There were 30 bowlers for breakfast and bowls. There was the usual fare for breakfast, and the usual workers, who saw that everyone was fed. The Lynndon Bowls Club is situated at 47 Galsworthy Street Holland Park, just off Logan Road, and close to the freeway exits of Gaza Road and Marshall Road. The club has two bowling greens and off-street parking in both Galsworthy Street and Sterculia Avenue and welcomes bowlers and the public to come and use our facilities. We provide coaching for new members and encourage others to come to the club and experience barefoot bowls with a variety of catered options. We have a hall and kitchen facilities available for hire to individuals and corporate/community groups for functions or venues for meetings. The ...
